Let’s build a website: Portfolio v4

Putting this here before God’s and men, as a way to keep myself on track.

Let’s get to the nitty gritty of it: I want to rebuild my portfolio so that it illustrates how far I’ve come as a web designer (design and front-end) and how much I’ve learned as a web developer (back-end). With that in mind, I want to showcase the work by creating in-depth case studies for a few projects (let’s say 4, for now), and a notebook of random ramblings (not a blog, screw those things).

So how ’bout them details:

  • Launch date: January 14th, 2014. This will give me adequate time to vet multiple outlets as well as QA, and launch a pretty awesome upgrade to my portfolio.
  • Browser Support: Modern Chrome, mobile Chrome, Firefox, Safari, mobile Safari, Opera, and IE9 (Sorry other IE patrons, but this site isn’t for you. You only make up 2.6% (and dwindling) of my traffic at the moment).
  • A case studies section, an about section, a contact section, and my notebook section
  • Responsive, minimal http requests, svg, all that fancy forward thinking stuff
  • Going to flex all that Steve Callan has been teaching me with the Expression Engine CMS

Sprint Details (9 weeks of development, dang man, have enough time?)

Here’s the thing. I’m not entirely sure what I want the site to look like, so it’s going to be an experiment for the first 2 weeks, as I build out snippets, gather content, and make decisions on what I’m going to do.

  • Sprint 1: Build the navigation, footer, set up basic Expression Engine Install
  • Sprint 2: Finish 3/9 building blocks
  • Sprint 3: Finish 6/9 building blocks
  • Sprint 4: Finish 9/9 building blocks
  • Sprint 5: Hook the blocks up to the CMS
  • Sprint 6: Build out the blocks into the 4 case studies, about section, contact page, and notebook section.
  • Sprint 7: QA, setting up different environments. Launching on Pagoda Box.

What do you guys think? Think you can keep me honest and call me out if I fall behind, or if you think I can do better? Let me know on Twitter.

Here goes nothing.
